On Friday, July 7, 2023, the TMG presented our initiatives to decarbonize the transportation sector to
a group of government officials from countries all around the world who were visiting Japan for a JICA training program.
Emissions from Tokyo’s transportation sector account for approximately 20% of the city’s total CO₂ emissions,
with automobiles generating 78% of transport emissions. Therefore, decreasing CO₂ emissions generated from automobiles is crucial.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government presented a range of initiatives it takes that align with these three key policies: Shifting to less carbon-intensive transportation methods; promoting efficient and rational of automobile use; and decarbonizing automobiles.
Learning about the roles that the local and national governments play and Tokyo’s zero emissions policies seemed to greatly inspire the trainees.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to contribute to improving urban environments by strengthening its cooperation with countries and international organizations worldwide.
