Introducing the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s new program that will mandate the installation of solar power generation equipment on designated new houses and other small to medium-sized buildings

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is currently accelerating all of its climate initiatives in order to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The construction of insulated, energy efficient homes has been increasing thanks to the establishment of the “Tokyo Zero Emissions Housing” standards, which took Tokyo’s regional characteristics into consideration. The installation of solar power generation equipment has played a particularly vital role in efforts to decarbonize, in addition to improving energy resilience during power outages and offering economic benefits.

Therefore, Tokyo is drafting a new program that would mandate large-scale housing suppliers that supply over 20,000 m2 of housing on a yearly basis to install solar power generation equipment on small and medium-sized new construction projects, after taking into consideration the property’s level of sun exposure and the buyer’s intent.

We have prepared a leaflet to help you better understand of the consideration of mandatory installation of solar power generation equipment.
