TIME TO ACT Forum 2023 Joint Message:
Accelerating the Implementation of Renewable Energy

The global climate crisis has become even further aggravated,
and the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report says that global temperature rise could reach 1.5°C as soon as the early 2030s. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the era of global warming has ended and the era of global boiling has arrived.
In addition, we are facing a major issue of an energy crisis due to an unstable energy supply and soaring prices on a global scale.

To realize a decarbonized society, it is essential to not only use energy more efficiently,
but also promote the massive introduction and supply of renewable energy as soon as possible, taking into account energy security and the other economic aspects involved.
Cities around the world, where more than half of the world’s population lives and more than two-thirds of the world’s energy is consumed, have an important role and responsibility in solving climate change issues, including the spread of renewable energy.
Today’s discussion has confirmed that it is possible to further expand the introduction of renewable energy by effectively using new technologies and systems for promoting introduction with consideration for the characteristics of cities.
We will show our determination to promptly achieve the decarbonization of cities
by accelerating the implementation of renewable energy while collaborating with other cities and stakeholders and leveraging the knowledge of startups and other diverse entities.

Specifically, given that measures for buildings are important in cities, we will promote urban
development that involves renewable energy systems, encouraging energy efficiency at buildings, expanding the introduction of solar power generation, and working to balance electricity supply and demand through storage batteries and other equipment.
In collaboration with advanced companies and other organizations, we will decisively work on all initiatives that leverage the potential of cities—we will promote the development and implementation of cutting-edge green technology, such as perovskite solar cells and Green Hydrogen, and effectively use ocean energy, including offshore wind power generation.

“TIME TO ACT”—Now is the time to accelerate concrete actions. We will take the lead and reach out to a variety of stakeholders as well as cities around the world so that we can create a strong momentum to overcome the climate crisis and energy crisis at the same time.
